I attended a briefing on the latest developments on Metrolink to Chorlton. The main points were:
- A bridge will close on Kings Rd in Stretford, due to take place in March 2010. However, this will have a big impact on Chorlton traffic flows. The need for proper clear diversions was stressed.
- There will be some disruption to Morrisons car park in the early new year. About 14 parking bays should be affected as work to the platform is completed. There will be some work before Christmas, but it shouldn’t be noticeable to shoppers.
- A traffic survey has been undertaken to assess the need for residents parking in some or all areas. Results are due in late October.
- Noise disturbance and other issues seem to be dealt with quite well.
- The next stage (to Didsbury) could begin work in the early new year. Val Stevens and I disagree about the time it will take to be operational. She says 9 months behind the Chorlton stop. I think 18 months is more realistic.
- There is an issue with the Substation that will power this line. John Leech is on top of it though.
There are a couple of other issues, but some more information is needed first.
